Founded in April, 1975, by Gordon and Clara McGee, Pioneer Building Supply has grew from a 1000 square foot store to a mega-store with over 100,000 square feet of building materials. As of February 2021, we have a new home at 231 Northgate Drive, McMinnville, TN. We're now in the heart of McMinnville Business. We are still a FULL service Building Supply with Lumber, Hardware, Windows, Doors and more, but conveniently located in a more compact, shopper friendly store. Pioneer is a family owned and operated corporation. Second generation owners include Amie Hodges, daughter of the founders, serving as President and CEO of the corporation and sibling Gordon McGee, Jr., serving as the Vice President. With combined backgrounds and/or advanced degress in Accounting, Construction Management, Architecture, Business Administration, Education and Aerospace, the family owned corporation is very well equipped to handle any construction project that is presented to them. However, advanced education is not the only tool you will have working for you when you select Pioneer Building Supply for your building needs. Founder and board of directors member Gordon McGee Sr., and Vice President Gordon McGee, Jr., each maintain a current and separate General Contractor license from the State of Tennessee. Gordon, Jr. states "We don't submit or actively pursue contracts. Although we could, we want to ensure that our customers that trade with us, mainly contractors and builders, keep that business for themselves. We want to sell them the materials and support them with referrals. We maintain a State License so we can keep abreast of the ever-changing laws and guidelines that effect the construction industry." The family engages in land development and periodically builds a speculation home to train employees on construction techniques. "It's a unique way to provide real world experience to our employees that no one else does." says Gordon, Jr. It's a different world in the field than it is behind the service counter and we know first hand what it is like in the "real world" of construction. Our family is from a line of builders and cabinet makers so we know how to communicate effectively with our contractor base. For instance, reading a subdivision plat and placing the future structure on the lot while maintaining the proper set backs and restrictions is imperative to get the project off to a great start. It's not something your average building supply is capable of doing, but we develop subdivisions so we know how to help our builders if they need assistance doing something like this." This technique of "on the job" training is a unique approach to employee training and development and is what separates Pioneer employees as professionals from any local competitors. Our sales staff members are appropriately titled "Building Specialists." This title is for a good reason, their product knowledge is designed to give the greatest support to contractors, builders and consumers therefore making them specialists in their field. "Our Building Specialists are the best around." Junior adds. "We have some employees that recently retired and they had been with us for over 45 years. That's a long time. It just goes to show our customers that we really know what we are talking about and we want to service them and their building needs to the highest levels." If you're looking for a contractor, builder or remodeler, we will personally recommend someone to you for your unique project. Referrals are FREE and you can rest easy knowing that you have been given contact information of reputable individuals to work with you. We even offer a "support list" for General Contractors. Whether your a Licensed General Contractor or a weekend Do-It Your Selfer, Pioneer Building Supply has the service, products and knowledge you need to complete your building project.
